London - Forget tradition... the father of the bride is no longer required to pick up the tab for her wedding day.

The practice is falling by the wayside, with 81 percent of ceremonies now being paid for using donations from a number of family members.

A survey has revealed that only 18 percent of the bride’s parents now cover the full bill for the big day, with 42 percent of couples paying for it themselves.

More than half of the 2 000 married women polled said they never expected their father to foot the whole bill and felt it was a dated tradition.

And these days the groom’s parents are also keen to chip in 11 percent of the the women polled by Beaverbrooks jewellers said their husband’s parents contributed to the cost of the wedding.

But 14 percent of brides still fell out with their parents over the prices. - Daily Mail
