Keep the lid on, Jamie

What was Jamie Oliver thinking?

He’s been quoted as telling an interviewer that his packed schedule frustrates his wife Jools, and she often “doesn’t get” what he does.

“We love each other to bits, but I don’t think marriage is easy,” he said. “We’re sort of caught in a bit of a rut. She doesn’t necessarily get every project that I do.

Not content with that, he goes to say: “I take sufficient weekends and holidays a year for any British woman, but that doesn’t mean I get thanked. I get asked to take more. You could get another week off a year and it wouldn’t make any difference. You’d still get a b******ing.

Then he says: “To be fair, she is an amazing mum, but you know what? I think she’s too good, and I think that’s a problem. Like she can’t delegate, she can’t give a little bit. She’s ****ing knackered. She hasn’t been away without the kids for eight years.”

If he thinks he’s in trouble with his wife, this little rant probably brought him heaps more.

The whole thing left me with the slightyly uncomfortable feeling of now knowing too much about someone who I don’t actually know - and a sense of unfairness that we don’t get to hear Jools’side of things.

The question is: how much should we talk about our marriages and relationships? When does some mild venting to friends become betrayal of the most important relationship in your life?

There’s an anonymous quote about marriage which goes: A good marriage is like a casserole, only those responsible for it really know what goes in it. “”

Jamie should have kept the lid on this casserole, I think.
