London - They are fiction’s most famous lovers, but Romeo and Juliet might not be so well-matched by today’s dating standards.

Match-making experts who analysed the psychological profiles of Shakespeare’s couple say Juliet would have been a better catch for Mr Darcy of Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice. Both are conscientious and appreciate regularity in their lives.

And her Romeo should have gone for a girl like Bella Swan from the Twilight saga, with both displaying neurotic traits.

They were among 60 fictional characters studied by dating website eHarmony, which matches people on profile details.

Each was scored on emotional temperament, social style, relationship skills and other elements considered necessary for a successful relationship.

“Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t have lasted too long as a couple,” an eHarmony spokesperson said. “He is far too superficial for her in terms of the way he judges his partners.”

Romeo would have failed to understand his young girlfriend’s needs or sympathise with her once the initial spark wore off. - Daily Mail
