London - She’s distant, moody and shuns affection – so the only conclusion is that your wife loves somebody more than you. You’re right, she does... and it’s your pet.

One in ten women claim they love an animal companion more than their partner, a study revealed.

Nearly a third said they felt the same amount of affection for their pet as a husband or a boyfriend.

A third let their pet sleep on their bed and 16 percent even let them snooze under the covers, a survey by animal welfare charity Brooke found. About 17 percent will lavish their furry friends with presents on Christmas Day.

Brooke said women form strong bonds because pets offer “endless affection and loyalty”.

“Pets can’t answer back with sarcastic comments or moan about the state of the house so it’s easy to have a blissful relationship with a pet, which can’t always been said of human relationships,” said a spokesperson.

The poll of 2 000 women found that more than half turn to their pet for comfort after a row, while 38 percent said there would be a bitter custody battle over the pet if they were to ever split up with their partner.

More than half said it would be a “deal-breaker” if the man in their life did not get on with their pet. - Daily Mail
