London - As the years roll by, the conventional wisdom is we should all slow down a bit.

But no one, it seems, has told this to today’s 60-somethings, who remain very keen on having an active love life.

In a survey of more than 500 people, half revealed that sex was still important to them, with twice as many men saying this than women.

According to some, this enduring interest has been helped by the recent boom in erotic novels such as Fifty Shades of Grey.

Dr Charlotte Jones, of the British Medical Association, said the book had inspired older people to become ‘more explorative’ in the bedroom. However, she warned that some were failing to use protection, leaving them at risk of sexually-transmitted diseases – something she attributed to the Fifty Shades of Grey effect.

The survey for Channel 4 News revealed that many think seeking sexual advice is no longer relevant. Since the book was published in 2011, there has been a rise in the number of infections in people aged over 45.
