Johannesburg - After three years of being part of Sexpo, the Salvation Army is back and convinced that “if Jesus Christ was alive today, he would be with (us) at Sexpo”.

The Salvation Army hopes to bring across its anti-human trafficking message to the hundreds expected to come to the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand for the sexuality and adult lifestyle exhibition.

The public relations secretary for the Salvation Army, Major Carin Holmes, said: “As has been the case with previous years, we are not at Sexpo to preach in any way whatsoever.

“Our objective is to help people become aware of the darker side of this industry; a part that leads vulnerable people, often as young as 10, into a murky world of exploitation from which it’s difficult to escape.”

They promise visitors a surprise, and though they won’t reveal what it is, Holmes gave a hint. “We’re taking something that many people experience several times in their lives and turning this into a powerful message about the dangers of human trafficking.

“If Jesus Christ was alive today, he would be with us at Sexpo, interacting with the visitors, and making people aware of human trafficking. That’s what the Gospel is about,” Holmes affirmed.

Sexpo startson Thursday September 24 andruns till Sunday.

Tickets start from R150 for students, R280 for general access – which includes VIP access and a goody bag – and R800 for a ticket that covers all the days of the expo.
