Johannesburg - Indulge your sensuality, delve into your sexuality, but please be safe.

The sexiest show in the country and the Gauteng Department of Health are teaming up to remind revellers about the importance of open communication with sexual partners and getting tested for HIV/Aids.

For the first time this year, Sexpo will feature HIV counselling and testing as part of its steamy line-up.

“The department’s exhibition platform will provide people with information regarding the prevention and treatment of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

“Next Friday, the department will have expert speakers who will focus on the importance of HIV testing for couples and linking to care and support,” department spokesman Steve Mabona said on Wednesday.

Sexpo management said the expo strove to create an environment where people could learn more about sex and sexual health so that they could enjoy and celebrate their sexuality in a positive way.

With about 7 million people in South Africa living with HIV, 200 000 Aids-related deaths a year and almost 400 000 new infections each year, Sexpo’s management added that they acknowledged that no conversation about sexuality and health was complete without mentioning how to prevent the spread of HIV.

General manager of Sexpo Christel McMahon said: “Sexpo brings people’s fantasies to life with all of our fantastic shows and entertainers, but we are also aware of the reality that there can be dangers associated with sex.”

* The show will run from September 24 to 27 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. Tickets are R280 and are available at Computicket.
