London - They may not get morning sickness, back ache or swollen feet – but it seems that fathers-to-be do experience at least one symptom of pregnancy.

Men’s hormones go into a spin in the months before their first child arrives.

The prospect of fatherhood brings with it a dip in two hormones, which may help men prepare to bond with their babies – and stop them being unfaithful.

A University of Michigan team measured hormone levels in 29 couples at four points in pregnancy.

Testosterone, cortisol, progesterone and oestradiol – a type of sex hormone, shot up in the women. Testosterone and oestradiol fell in men, while the others did not change, the American Journal of Human Biology reports.

This may make men more caring, help prepare them for new responsibilities – and could be nature’s way of stopping them straying. - Daily Mail
