London - Hillary Clinton has had work done to make her more attractive to voters, a biography claims.

The leading Democratic Party presidential candidate is said to have had Botox after it was suggested by her husband Bill.

She has also had work done on her neck, eyes and forehead, it is claimed.

US journalist and author Ed Klein said Mrs Clinton had “no intention of going to a clinic” so a well-known plastic surgeon set up a mini-operating room at her home in Chappaqua, upstate New York.

In Unlikeable, he writes that a friend said: “She had her cheeks lifted and her wrinkles and lines Botoxed... she had work done on her eyes as well as on her neck and forehead. If it had started to make her look weird, she would have stopped it immediately. It was a pretty big deal and required multiple visits.”

Mrs Clinton’s spokesman Nick Merrill attacked Mr Klein over the book, saying: “We’re not going to get down in the gutter with him and his outrageous fabrications.”

Mrs Clinton has laughed off questions about her appearance in the past.

“All our presidents come into office looking so vigorous. And then we watch their hair grow grayer and grayer,” she said in June.

“Well, I may not be the youngest candidate in this race. But I will be the youngest woman president in the history of the United States! And the first grandmother, as well,” she added. “And one additional advantage: You won't see my hair turn white in the White House.”
