London - Are you the sort of person that tends to take risks? Then you’re probably a fan of curry.

A study has found people who like stimulating their taste buds with spicy foods are more likely to have risk-taking personalities.

Scientists at Penn University tested 200 people to see how they reacted to adrenaline-pumping situations, such as standing near the edge of a building.

They were then given a small amount of capsaicin – the active ingredient in chilli peppers.

The people who liked the spicy taste were the same ones who enjoyed the adrenaline rush of risky behaviour.

Dr Alan Hirsch, from the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, said: “There’s a hypothesis that risk-takers are adrenaline deficient.

“When you eat hot spicy food, it gives you a little bit of pain and therefore it can enhance your adrenaline level.” - Daily Mail
