Spain – He’s the creator of Facebook, so careers advice from Mark Zuckerberg is worth hearing.

And the founder of the multi-billion internet giant has a simple, if unexpected, tip for would-be Facebook staff – imagine yourself as his boss.

When the 30-year-old was asked for the main thing he looks for in a potential employee at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, he said: ‘I will only hire someone to work directly for me if I would work for that person. It’s a pretty good test.’

He also offered advice on maintaining a ‘healthy organisation’, saying: ‘The most important thing is to keep your team as small as possible. Facebook serves more than a billion people…but our team has fewer than 10 000 people. Big companies get bloated.’

Zuckerberg quashed rumours about developing cars and solar power.

But he said Facebook’s goal of connecting people is ‘pretty broad’, with a bid to get those in developing countries online via its Internet.org push.
