London - Turning 50? Time to start worrying. Rather than being an exciting milestone, many of us regard 50 as the age when we start to become anxious about getting old.

Researchers found that the days after turning 50 are the time when many of us become anxious about the prospect of health problems and fading looks.

A poll of Britons aged 50 and over found that eight in ten worry about getting older.

Health issues, serious illnesses, failing minds and forgetfulness are among the top concerns. More than half of Britain’s over-50s worry about loss of independence, while being a burden to others, having an unhealthy body but a fit mind, and how your children will cope if you fall ill or pass away also feature high among the concerns.

Some 95 percent of the 1 000 over-50s surveyed by cloudBuy, a company specialising in online commerce, said they would prefer not to move to a nursing home. - Daily Mail
