London - You’ve set the date, picked the dress and chosen a fancy car to take you to church. Now all you need is a groom.

If this scenario sounds familiar, you’re not alone – most single women have secretly started planning their weddings, a study found.

Millions who are still waiting to find Mr Right have nonetheless picked out their venues, flowers, cakes and even hymns.

Six out of 10 single women have already made up their minds about some parts of their big day – many have been planning since they were little girls.

The average girl starts thinking about her wedding at age 13, and a quarter said it had been on their agenda since age six.

Nearly half of 600 single women polled had made perhaps the most important decision of all – apart from the identity of the groom.

A spokesman for the Interflora research team said: “This research shows just how important a woman’s wedding day is to them.

“Even those who haven’t yet got a partner have a clear idea of the type of wedding they would like.”

The poll found one in 20 women got ahead of themselves by buying wedding magazines, and nearly one in five had been to a wedding fair. A dedicated 22 percent have a scrap book or folder where they keep ideas.

Not surprisingly, however, 58 percent said they wouldn’t dream of sharing their thoughts with a new boyfriend, for fear of scaring them.

However, 27 percent said they might – if it would encourage a suitor to pop the question.

The poll also found 13 percent of women have picked the month they want to get married, while 27 percent have decided on a season. Nearly a third say there is pressure on them to seal the deal – 29 percent say their parents want them to get hitched soon.

The poll revealed that the dress is the single most planned aspect – 49 percent of single women know what type they want.

About 32 percent have thought about where to go on honeymoon, and 23 percent have chosen the flowers.

Hairstyles were also a big deal, with 20 percent of women picking them in advance, and 20 percent had chosen a venue.

As for the food, 17 percent had given it thought, and 15 percent were worried about what favours to hand out. Nine percent picked out hymns – and 6 percent had decided on a firm date. – Daily Mail
