Reaching out to your angels

Durban - When people decide they want to visit a psychic, they are usually at a crossroads in life and everything seems a mess, says amiable psychic Shannon Walbran.

Her advice for these people – and one of her golden rules when it comes to putting things in order before visiting a psychic – is to sort out “everything” well before you arrive for your appointment.

“Do this so that you can prioritise your problems and organise your answers,” says Walbran, who will be in Durban on September 5 to host one of her famous Saturday Seminars.

Based in Johannesburg and offering private sessions by telephone, public group sessions, and one-on-one VIP sessions, Walbran has hosted a successful series of seminars in Johannesburg, and brings this experience to Durban for the first time in 10 years.

During the seminar – to be held at the La Vita Conference Centre, 20 John McIntyre Road, Snell Parade – participants will ask a question and receive a specific, personal answer.

Also, everyone will learn a new technique to contact their angels on their own, explains Walbran.

She enjoys visiting Durban, having long held a regular guest spot on East Coast Radio, as well as SAfm and Lotus, giving callers advice.

“What I love about Durban is how people wear their hearts on their sleeves: people are so transparent about their religious and cultural heritage,” she adds.

“It is a joy to facilitate their spiritual development, since they are so far along the path already.”

Walbran has helped more than 20 000 clients directly since she began practising as a psychic in 2003.

She is the author of Guided! How to Communicate with Your Spirit Guides, available on Kindle and free on Audible.

She says people should always be prepared when planning to contact their angels.

“Prioritise your problems and organise your answers. Make a list of your top 10 most pressing problems,” she advises.

“A psychic may be able to better help you with some problems than others, depending on skills.

“So if you stop thinking it’s all about the love-life and add in topics such as career, health, parenting, spiritual development, finances and family relationships, you’re more likely to get better results.”

She adds that nothing in the future is written in stone, so the questions, “Will I get married?” or “Will I get a promotion?” are less empowering than, “How can I take my relationship with so-and-so to the next level?” and “What steps can I take to become a senior manager?”

Also, a yes/no response is much less interesting than a set of instructions, procedures and strategies which are actionable and can show you results, says Walbran.

What she’s getting at is that you will generate a better answer with a better question.

Another bit of advice from Walbran for those seeing a psychic is to let her do her job. “If you’re paying her to give you insights, hold back with your own analyses. You know what you think, so give her this hour and take notes.

“If you want straight counselling, go to a counsellor and talk your heart out, where venting can be helpful. A psychic session is different; it’s for you to learn and see a fresh perspective.”

Another piece of good advice is to listen for facts.

“‘You’re having a hard time’ applies to nearly everyone who walks in the door. On the other hand, ‘You’re competing with your sister for your mom’s attention’ is specific and can be a key to your emotional freedom.

“The best kind of psychic reading updates your reality. It homes in on your strengths and weaknesses, helping you to make a great leap forward.

“Check to see that the psychic’s facts, whether about the emotional or physical world, align basically with what you already know to be true about your life, and then listen for the best new configuration and how to move on. So acknowledge your sister’s academic brilliance, encourage her, and be grateful that you have a vibrant social life instead.”

Go once. Then act, watch and wait … that is another suggestion from Walbran.

“A week after you visit a psychic, it’s super-tempting to run back and ask for more information. ‘If she knew that much about me, she must know more!’

“Probably not. It’s likely that she connected with angels and guides who told you everything the psychic could access at that point.

“Beware of psychics who tell you they can ‘lift a curse’ or ‘change your luck’ with repeated, expensive visits.

“Instead, take action based on messages that made sense to you. Apply for the job, call the friend, sign up for music lessons. See how your life shifts.”

Also, look for signs in real life, advises Walbran.

“When you get a surprising message in a session (I recently told a successful businesswoman to ‘live like a monk’, and she was not excited), journal about it. Write down what you thought the message meant, and how you want or don’t want to take it on.

“Stay alert for clues in your environment – books that come to you, radio shows you “accidentally” hear – and other ways that life might be supporting and elaborating on the psychic’s message.”

Also good advice, says Walbran, is to learn how to do it yourself.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it. Designing your own life and making it happen with both magic (vision boards, affirmations) and practical (education, networking) measures is the absolute best.

“Learning the language of spiritual guidance can be done on your own rather than paying someone else to be your translator.

“Prayer, morning pages and muscle testing are great ways to get answers – and then you follow the same steps of asking empowered questions, listening for facts, taking action, and looking for signs with your own messages, too. You can become your own psychic.”

Of course, we all get stuck sometimes, and it can be a lightning bolt to consult, but lightning is not the same as solar power, which is available most days, says Walbran.

“If you find yourself addicted and going once a week to a psychic, or you can’t decide which jacket to wear without consulting – wean yourself off and learn the DIY way.”

What about all the nay-sayers? How does Walbran handle them?

“I let them be. People believe what they want to believe. I offer loads of community service on the radio, in which I answer one question at no cost to callers. If nay-sayers tune in, they will hear callers getting facts, advice and relevant info that changes their lives in a heartbeat.”

Walbran recalls she was a small child when she first discovered she was psychic.

“That was when my veil between this world and the invisible world was very thin.

“I had an extremely vivid imagination, and I was so sensitive that I would burst into tears at the very slightest provocation. My family taught me to toughen up, get good grades, and live in the ‘real world’. I am very grateful for that.”

How would people know if their angels are communicating with them?

There are fives signs to watch for, says Walbran, one being a feather or a coin on the ground in front of you.

“Also, when you’re alone and it’s ‘impossible’, you will get the scent of perfume or incense.

“Listen for a meaningful song on the radio at an unexpected time – such as in a store – and a vivid dream that answers a question (write it down). Another sign is a newspaper headline that speaks to you.”

* Tickets cost R250 for Walbran’s Durban session – 9am to 11am for women, 4pm to 6pm for men. More details are available at [email protected].
