London - Previously the colour many women desperately dyed their hair to disguise, grey, has undergone somewhat of a makeover recently. Silver locks have become a new fashion statement.
The youngest of the Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner, is one of the most recent celebrities to voluntarily go grey, swiftly followed by Orange Is the New Black star Dascha Polanco.
The 17-year-old spent 12 hours at a salon to get her raven locks dyed a grey and greenish tint. She took to Instagram to show off the look.
However, the reality TV star is by no means the first to opt for the unusual colour. As far back as 2010, the singer Pink turned grey, with a distinctively silverly tint. Then Kelly Osbourne went grey in 2012 and then Rihanna coloured her extensions silver during her world tour last year.
Hairstylist Jasmin Allen says: “Grey, when styled correctly, is the coolest new hue. I’ve seen an increase in interest among my younger clientele.
“There has been a gradual creep towards complete grey, with celebrities experimenting with red carpet looks hinting grey via lilacs, blues and greens. The high silver interpretation of grey reflects the light in a way no other colour can. It’s a bold statement. It is not for everyone, so it needs to be matched with an overall statement look and attitude.” – Daily Mail
