London - It will come as little surprise to men fed up with waiting for their turn in front of the bathroom mirror.

Women spend almost two years of their lives doing their hair and make-up, according to research.

And they spend an average of £12 645 over their lifetime on beauty products – the same as the average first-time buyer’s mortgage deposit.

The poll of 1 000 women, commissioned by Vaseline, found two fifths spend up to 40 minutes a day getting ready, while a dedicated one in ten take two hours. This takes up an average of 722 days over a lifetime.

About 58 percent said they spend so long on their looks because it boosts their confidence, while 44 percent want to impress others. But three quarters said they would welcome shortcuts to their regime.
