London - For those who need a dose of selfie-confidence, this could be the answer.

Scientists have come up with the first foundation for the “selfie generation” – and they promise it will save you from looking shiny under the camera’s glare.

Made in Dior’s French labs, the product is said to break up the harsh light of the photographic flash.

The result, its makers claim, is that the user looks instantly more photogenic – and ready for their smartphone close-up.

Key ingredients of Diorskin Star include tiny, titanium-lined spheres, as well as extracts of daisies, to regulate melanin production, and liquorice, which cuts redness.

In tests, including some done in a photographic studio under camera flash guns, skin appeared smoother and more even. And rather than looking shiny, skin was deemed radiant.

The liquid foundation, which costs £32 (about R600) for a 30ml bottle, is aimed at the growing number of young women – and men – who regularly photograph themselves using their mobile phone and then publish the snaps on the internet.

The photos are easy to take but the closeness of the flash to the face can leave skin looking shiny and unattractive. A poll of more than 1 000 British women commissioned by Dior found that just 15 percent were happy with the way they look in pictures online, and more than two-thirds of the 25- to 44-year-olds questioned said their make-up does not photograph well.

The new foundation, which is best applied with a teardrop-shaped sponge, is packed with thetiny hollow balls lined with titanium. This combination grabs light from the camera flash and scatters it back, resulting in “even, softly-flattering light that retains its intensity without appearing shiny’”

Make-up artist Carlos Ferraz, whose clients include actresses Kate Beckinsdale, Mila Kunis and Eva Mendes, said: “We now live in a digital age and, as everyone is a photographer, it’s important that our make-up is camera ready.” - Daily Mail
