Meet fashion’s power siblings

London - They say there's no better friend than a sister - and a new breed of power sisters share more than just friendship.

The likes of Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid and Suki and Immy Waterhouse share fame, fortune, A-list contacts and fashion kudos.

With a powerful sisterly sidekick comes a better reputation, double the power and, of course, a boost to the bank balance. We examine the rise of the power sisters in young Hollywood.

 

KENDALL AND KYLIE JENNER

Combined reported net worth: R103m

Only 19 and 18 respectively, they are making a name for themselves as the world’s most powerful sisters.

Kylie was unveiled as the ambassador for beauty brand Nip + Fab, the latest in a string of successes for the young star who landed herself a shoot in the highly acclaimed fashion bible, Carine Roitfeld’s Fashion Book.

She and Kendall have their own clothing and shoe range, and brands are clambering over each other to tap Kylie’s magic.

Kendall has seen her star sky-rocket in the past year. It has been her dream to break away from the show that propelled her to fame and cement her name as a model – and is making her fantasy a reality.

The brunette has starred in campaigns for Givenchy, Estée Lauder, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Calvin Klein and Balmain. She proved she ranks up there with the supermodels after she entered Forbes’s list of highest-paid models. The reality TV star is the youngest on the list, with her $4-million (R53.5m) earnings putting her just behind Kate Moss. Kendall is eighth and while Gisele Bundchen’s $44m dwarfs the rest of the top 10, she matches some more established models.

 

GIGI AND BELLA HADID

From being named as the face of Topshop, to landing campaigns with Guess, Seafolly and Maybelline, Gigi has been making waves in the modelling industry.

Even with a well-off family, she’s made it on her own – and proved wrong the haters and trolls who recently slammed her looks by going on to land some major campaigns.

Gigi also runs with a cool crowd. She’s often spotted with Cara Delevingne or partying with Joe Jonas, Justin Bieber and Lewis Hamilton; her closest pals are Kendall Jenner and Taylor Swift.

Gigi’s little sister Bella, 18, might not have had as much exposure as her older sister, but that doesn’t mean she has any less potential – she is quickly catching up with her star sibling’s phenomenal fashion success, carving out an impressive career for herself within the industry.

She was recently named the face of Botkier’s spring campaign, and joined Gigi on the catwalk at the Tom Ford autumn/winter 2015 show in February, the Balmain show in Paris and at the Balmain X H&M show in New York recently.

Bella was also the star attraction at the Topshop Unique show in London last month and has been landing herself countless glossy magazine spreads.

 

SUKI AND IMMY WATERHOUSE

Combined fashion campaigns: 16m

After being scouted in a pub in London when she was 16, Suki, 23, went on to model lingerie for Marks and Spencer, as well as starred in Alice + Olivia, Coast and H&M campaigns. Her biggest feat is being named the face of Burberry.

The supermodel was recently unveiled as the new Global Brand Muse for US hair giant Redken, Amazon Fashion and Burberry beauty. Her acting career is burgeoning, with roles in Love, Rosie, and The Divergent Series: Insurgent. She will star in The Bad Batch alongside Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves.

Immy, 20, is fast following in her sister’s footsteps. She made her catwalk debut in the Ashley Williams AW15 show and starred in the Helmer campaign. She also starred in a modelling campaign for George at Asda’s G21 Talent label in June. She has also lent her good looks to campaigns for Urban Outfitters, Coast and Asda.

 

Clearly keen to follow in her older sister's fashionable footsteps, Immy says that Suki's success has inspired her own career.

'Suki has shown me that hard work pays off and rejection is a big part of it,' she told Vogue.
