London - The thrill of buying a glossy new lipstick or nail varnish can be a cheap and cheerful way of brightening our day.

But you might want to consider finishing those in your make-up bag first – because in a lifetime women waste £180 000 on unused beauty products.

A study shows that despite having shelves of lotions and potions, 77 percent of those polled actually use less than one in ten of them.

The wasted £180 000 is spent on 5 846 beauty products over a lifetime. However, just 649 of these are actually used. The research, commissioned by Vaseline, reveals that women refuse to throw out unused beauty products.

Nail varnishes are the most hoarded, followed by shampoos and conditioners, lipsticks and lip gloss and perfumes and shower gels. In an average adult lifetime women buy 840 moisturisers, 360 nail varnishes and 300 lipsticks.
