Straggly brows are suddenly stylish

London - When Renee Zellweger unveiled her new, “happier” face last month, the dramatic change in her appearance prompted global headlines.

But to the beauty industry, the most eyebrow-raising change was simply… her eyebrows.

Not so long ago, the actress, 45, was a fully paid-up subscriber to the universal vogue for thick, dark, perfect arches. Now she is among the first celebrities to advocate the new messy trend.

The world of fashion has caught on, too, with big-name brands such as Jigsaw having straggly-browed models plastered all over advertising billboards for autumn/winter campaigns.

Nicola Moulton, Vogue’s health and beauty director, describes the new shape as “fashionably untamed”, adding: “A strong brow, which confusingly is beauty-speak for a slightly untamed eyebrow, is popular because people are trying to move away from that overly plucked Scouse brow.”

But Nilam Holmes-Patel, of beauty firm HD Brows, says that low maintenance does not mean no maintenance. “When we’re talking about eyebrows with a bit of re-growth, it’s very definitely just a few extra strands at the inner corners,” she explains. “The idea is to look simultaneously groomed and natural.

“That means getting rid of the massive manicured arch and the square front to make the front see-through and sparse. There’s a definite shape, but there’s no hard edge. You know you’ve got it right when you see more hair than colour.” - Daily Mail
