Durban - South African Fashion Week’s (SAFW) student competition is inviting students to get creative with this year’s theme The Great White Shirt.

Students will be exercising their ingenuity by using the elements of a traditional shirt – such as collars, cuffs, plackets and button stands – and transforming them into a high quality garment using natural white fabric.

The entrants are required to design a Skip swing tag to accompany their garment. Skip is partnering with SAFW in the competition.

Some 31 colleges have connected with the competition, with many of them incorporating it into their syllabus.

The winner will receive a cash prize of R10 000, and R15 000 worth of new equipment for their college.

He or she will enjoy a VIP experience at SAFW autumn/winter 2015 collections in October this year, where they will get to meet their favourite designers.

SAFW has teamed with fashion designer Clive Rundle in searching for the next leader in design.

The winner will also receive a two-week internship with Clive Rundle.

The winner will be announced at the annual SAFW Pop-Up Shop 2014 at Brooklyn Mall, Pretoria, on August 30, where the top 10 finalists will have their work exhibited in an installation.

Entries are open and the competition closes on July 25. Enquiries: [email protected] or 011 442 7812. Visit safashionweek.co.za
