Durban - Put your best body forward this summer in the top swimwear looks, Liam Joyce and Buhle Mbonambi write.

Men

While the Speedo has made a comeback, it is still not a popular choice for many men. Unless you have the body of David Beckham, rather don’t take the chance. Since we urge you to stay away from trunks, we suggest you get yourself a pair of cropped nylon shorts, or tailored swim shorts. Trust us, you will make a statement with these, plus you can also wear them with your polo shirts or vest after a day at the beach and look like one of the best dressed men in town.

Cropped Nylon Shorts

It’s the popular sports luxe trend and this time it’s very evident in swimwear. Popular with marathon runners, cropped nylon shorts lend a vintage, yet athletic feel and they come in various colours and prints.

Tailored Swim Shorts

Tailored swim shorts have been popular for a few seasons and it’s evident why. They are great for everyone, young and old. This season the shorts are even shorter (mid-thigh) than last season. For that tailored look, these swim shorts now feature side adjusters, which we normally see with tailored pants. If you want to, you can add a belt, but it’s really not necessary.

Women

Photographic prints, high-waist bottoms and tribal prints made a big appearance on runways across the world, oversized tops, clean-cut one-pieces, jewellery worked into fabrics, and panelled bottoms, are the trends for swimwear this summer.

If you plan on showing off your perfectly-toned body, or just want to tan, there is something for everyone this season. From bold coloured bikinis to classic one-piece suits, you can have fun in just about anything this summer.

The revival of high-waisted pants has now made its way on to the swim scene and we love its retro look. You can have fun by pairing a black bottom with a floral print or brightly coloured top.

If you want a sexier look, a two piece cut out bikini is a must. And if you want to be covered but still be sexy, then the one-piece cut-out suit is for you. It all boils down to what you are most comfortable in.

For a sportier look, the wetsuit-inspired designs are what will have you standing out from the rest of the crowd – its is every surfer girl’s dream.
