London – Her elegant pink silk gown fell smoothly over every curve and made her the centre of attention on the red carpet.

And Cate Blanchett’s explanation of the way she ensured the outfit flattered her hourglass figure without a hitch was distinctly revealing.

The Oscar-winning actress, 45, admitted she was not wearing any underwear as she appeared at a showbusiness event in Sydney earlier this week.

Her Alexander McQueen gown featured billowing trumpet sleeves, a plunging neckline and clung to her hips, which, while complementary to Blanchett’s trim figure, would have put any VPL on display. Revealing how she got around the issue, Blanchett said as she took to the red carpet: ‘I’m not wearing any knickers tonight.’

The actress was pictured arriving at the Australian Academy Cinema Television Awards.

Later in the evening it seemed it was her shoes that were causing her problems – she ditched her high heels to go comfortably barefoot.

The Blue Jasmine star, who is an ambassador of the Australian Film Institute, was co-hosting the awards ceremony, which is considered to be the Australian version of the Oscars.

Blanchett, who has three sons with her husband, playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, is not the first star who has shared their underwear secrets.

Last year Harry Potter actress Emma Watson revealed she keeps a pair of ‘invisible’ knickers in her make-up bag.

Watson, 24, is also thought to use stick on bras to allow her to wear backless dresses on the red carpet.
