London - Christian Louboutin, the designer footwear brand famous for red-soled shoes, is heading back to court over its trademark.

The designer won a 2012 trademark case in the US to retain the right exclusively to use red soles but is now seeking to have the same rights in Europe.

A trademark case is heading to the Court of Justice of the European Union after Louboutin launched a lawsuit against Dutch footwear brand Van Haren in 2013 which was then referred.

In 2012, Louboutin won its trademark infringement lawsuit in the US against Yves Saint Laurent for selling heels with red soles.

A New York court ruled Louboutin has trademark protection for its red soles unless the shoe itself is also red.
