Johannesburg - Khanyi Dhlomo threw a party for 300 of her closest friends on Tuesday night to celebrate the imminent launch of her high-end luxury store, Luminance.

The party was held in Hyde Park at the Luminance pop-up store, where swanky celebrities sipped champagne while examining and shopping for clothes and perfumes by haute couture houses such as Stella McCartney, Givenchy and Oscar de la Renta.

Actress and model Shashi Naidoo described it as an “exquisite preview of exceptional fashion and beauty to come”.

This was after an introductory speech by Dhlomo, who is also the founding editor of Destiny magazine and Ndalo Media.

Dhlomo said she first came up with the idea for the luxury retail shop while living in Paris a few years back.

The 700m2 shop will open in Hyde Park Corner in July.

The delightful MC, Lalla Hirayama, who was dressed by top British designer Matthew Williamson, wore a shocking-pink silk beaded dress.

Other celebrities on the night included the wives of millionaires, some of whom are mining magnates. Dhlomo’s family were also present, including her mother, who is a partner in the venture.

The store will also hold space for top local designers such as Gavin Rajah, David Tlale and Stoned Cherrie. - The Star
