Johannesburg - Verve received an email newsletter about South African Fashion Week, which ended on Saturday. It included a section on fashion etiquette, which we thought worth sharing:

l Don’t even think of arriving without an invitation.

l It’s not chic to be late.

l Have a “I know I’m in fashion” expression on your face.

l Have your business card ready at all times – this is a networking opportunity.

l Learn the designer names off by heart.

l Have something interesting to say about your favourite designers, or at least know where you can buy their garments from.

l Make sure you know who your favourite media person is – you might bump into her or him.

l Rock South African designer outfits to the shows.

l Get to know the designer whose show you are attending.

l Watch your hairstyle – the person behind you may also want to see the show.

l No jeans whatsoever.

l No Cinderellas.

l Don’t wear clothes one size too small.

l Make sure you hold your handbag correctly.

l Be on trend.

l Don’t be photographed with a drink in your hand.

l Don’t pose for a picture.

l Don’t hang on to your partner.

l Don’t jump the queue getting your favourite drink.

l Wear only your most beautiful black shoes when sitting in the front row. #FROW

l Don’t cross your legs when you sit in the front row. #FROW

l Make sure you are photographed and seen by the right people.

l No stampeding.

l Don’t chew gum – you may be caught on camera with your mouth open.

l Don’t whistle or shout – it is fashion you are watching, not a sports game.

l Don’t scale the gifts out of the goodie bag on the seat next to you.

l Don’t sit in someone else’s seat.

l Don’t be photographed with your hands on your hips.

l Don’t pretend you are media if you are not.

l Air-kiss everyone – accompanied by a “mwah” sound. - The Star
