The fashion event is considered to be the largest commercial exchange platform in Latin America. According to the show’s official website, more than 1 700 international buyers, more than 6 000 national buyers and 60 000 visitors attended the event.

With a strong textiles and manufacturing industry, the oil-rich country, with a population of about 50 million, is hot on the heels of Brazil and Mexico as one of the biggest economies in South America.

The country’s fashion industry has been burgeoning since 1990, when decades-long restrictions on imports and currency transfers were lifted, and later in the 2000s when free-trade agreements with Europe and America were signed.

The Business of Fashion’s website said Colombia’s powerful domestic fashion brands did much of the early work to establish distribution networks that luxury brands entering the country are now benefiting from.

Columbia’s dynamic fashion market is certainly one to watch.
