Johannesburg - When Rihanna found her Met Gala dress, she felt she had stumbled on a gem, but the internet felt differently.
Speaking to Vogue magazine’s André Leon Talley on the red carpet, Rihanna said her yellow outfit was put together by designer Guo Pei.
She said: “It’s a miracle how it happened actually. I saw this beautiful beast on the internet. I was looking through, you know, researching Chinese couture. It’s handmade by one Chinese woman. It took two years to make this.”
She felt her choice was perfect, but as soon as pictures of her in the dress reached the internet, it was mocked, and memes were soon generated.
@HORANSINS tweeted: “rihannas dress at the met gala looks like an omelette,” and @metIifeniaII said: “Why does rihannas dress look like an orange slice?”
The memes were even more popular than the tweets mocking her.
Some made her dress into an egg yolk, and most made it into a pizza.
This is not the first time Rihanna’s dress choice has come under scrutiny. At the Grammy Awards in February, the singer arrived in a large pink dress that drew an equal number of comments.
