Cape Town – These days sportswear does not only belong in the gym, limited to being worn while working out.

We have seen it on the runways of top designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Rag and Bone, who have showcased sport-inspired style that works for the gym and the city streets.

The trend is called “luxe” and celebrities such as Beyoncé, Gwen Estafani, Rita Ora, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams have made it popular by collaborating with big sports brands to make sportswear trendy and cool.

Stylist and blogger Siki Msuseni shows you how to luxe, withsports-inspired outfits that you can exercise in as well as wear while out and about.

The best of both worlds: dos and don’ts

* If you are bigger around the thigh area, avoid graphic printed tights. Opt for solid colour tights instead, as printed tights can make you look a size bigger than you actually are.

* When wearing a pair of fitness tights outside the gym, wear them with a longer top that covers your buttocks or tie a long-sleeve top around your waist to transform your outfit to a more chic casual look.

* Boys, give your sporty outfit a preppy look by buttoning the top button of your golf shirt and tucking it in your cotton shorts.

* For a chilly day, go for that layered look by wearing tights underneath your gym shorts.

* Match your bright cap to your trainers to give your outfit a pop of personality and to breathe some life into your gym outfit.
