Washington - Some have conjectured that Zendaya Coleman, the 19-year-old singer-actress-dancer, can do no wrong.
That assessment has so far proved pretty accurate.
When Zendaya was 16, she became the youngest contestant on Dancing With The Stars - and placed second overall.
The next year, her debut album's lead single, Replay, went platinum.
And just last month, Zendaya's red carpet look at the Oscars was made into a Barbie doll. When the equally idolised Nicki Minaj congratulated Zendaya by posting a picture of her own Mattel likeness, fans accused Minaj of trying to steal the younger starlet's limelight.
As if all of this wasn't enough to prove Zendaya's prowess, she's now flexed her muscles in the fashion world for the good of womankind.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Zendaya expressed her shock at seeing her hips and torso “quite manipulated” in a fashion cover shoot for Modeliste magazine.
“These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have,” Zendaya wrote. “Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love.”
Zendaya posted the original photo to the right of the retouched one, which makes her hips appear flatter and more angular.
Modeliste responded Wednesday with an apologetic Facebook post announcing that editor-in-chief Amy McCabe, Zendaya and her parents had made the collaborative decision to pull the originally planned November issue and instead publish “unedited and authentic images” from the Puerto Vallarta cover shoot.
“We stand to represent and advocate a message of positive body image, self love and embracing all aspects of individuality, natural beauty and the empowerment of women,” the post read.
Modeliste's website promises an “unedited edit” coming soon.
This isn't the first time Zendaya has spoken up for body positivity. She told The Huffington Post last year, “My stance on it is everyone has their own body and they should feel comfortable and secure in what they have.”
Zendaya encouraged tall girls to not let their height stop them from wearing heels, calling herself a 5-foot-10 “string bean.”
