KwaZulu-Natal’s last hope in Idols SA bowed out on Sunday night, after getting the fewest votes in the top four.

Siphelele Ngcobo, 24, of Inanda, was in the bottom two with Karabo Mogane, but failed to get enough of the almost 10 million votes that were cast to make it into the top three.

The top three are Mogane, 24, of Mbombela; Rhema Varrie, 21, of Alberton; and Mmatema Moremi, 23, of Limpopo; who will now battle it out to be crowned the season 11 winner.

The winner’s prize package includes a recording contract, clothing, cash and a fully paid trip to Los Angeles, with a fan of the show, to attend the finale of American Idol.

Fans of Ngcobo’s expressed their disappointment about his exit on Twitter last night.

Annette Ngwenya tweeted: “#IdolsSiphelele should be very proud of himself, he left the competition knowing he did exceptionally well.”

Andile Magaba tweeted: “I don’t have to worry about voting anymore as my favourite act #idolsSiphelele is not in the competition anymore.”

Last night’s Idols SA included performances by Gangs of Ballet and Khuli Chana.

Ngcobo, who mainly sang South African songs during the competition, was praised for his song choices by judges.

Fans who would like to hear Ngcobo perform the songs he would have sung on last night’s Top 3 Spectacular should listen to Arye Kellman’s internet-streaming show on CliffCentral at 4pm today.

Voting for the Top 3 will close at 10pm tomorrow.
