Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire - One of the star items in a recent charity auction at the home of footballer David Beckham and his wife Victoria (former Spice Girls singer Posh Spice), often (half)jokingly to as Beckingham Palace, was this Harley-Davidson V-Rod.

The bike was supplied by Harley-Davidson UK to support the Beckhams' fund-raising efforts in aid of UNICEF. It was custom-sprayed in England colours with the flag of St George to celebrate England's participation in the 2006 World Cup and signed by every player in the English World Cup team at the party - which was most of them.

Beckham's fellow England international star Rio Ferdinand bid £65 000 (about R830 000) - four times its retail value! - for the V-Rod special, which proves two things:

- Top footballers get paid more money than they know what to do with.

- Their hearts are in the right place.

The Beckhams' Full Length and Fabulous party raised more than £2-million (R25-million) for UNICEF.
