Johannesburg - KTM South Africa has introduced two new RC-badged road bikes - basically 'clothed' versions of the naked Duke derivatives, with stylish Grand Prix-inspired bodywork.

The more powerful of the two is the KTM RC390 which has a DOHC four-valve 375cc single-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection. Outputs of 33kW and 35Nm and a mass of just 147kg make for handy power-to-weight ratio.

It has a sporty focus with the riding characteristics of a genuine racer, which is why it's used in the KTM Super Junior Challenge which forms part of the SA National Super GP circuit racing championship.

ABS BRAKING

Developed together with Brembo, the ABS braking system includes a four-piston radially mounted caliper biting down on a 300mm front disc.

The RC390 sells for R62 999.

For those on a tighter budget, the new RC125 offers similarly sporty handling but less power for R48 999. Sixteen-year olds will love its Grand Prix styling while the 11kW single-cylinder engine offers ideal power for new riders to hone their skills. It too comes with ABS braking on a large 300mm front disc.

Each of these bikes has a comprehensive digital LCD dashboard with selected gear, fuel gauge, service interval information, and journey statistics such as fuel economy and average speed. An adjustable shift light indicates the time to switch gears when accelerating - like a true race bike.
