Hockenheim, Germany - Audi is preparing to stage one of the most extreme autonomous driving demonstrations yet.

At the final round of the German Touring Car Championship at the Hockenheimring on 19 October, an RS7 Sportback will go out for a couple of hot laps of the Grand Prix circuit - with nobody on board.

To underscore the potential of what Audi is now calling 'piloted driving technology' the concept RS7, which is fitted with all the latest robotic developments, will go round the circuit as fast as it can.

And that's expected to be about as fast as it would go with a professional racing driver at the wheel; computer simulations predict that the autonomous Audi should lap at a few seconds over two minutes, hitting 238km/h on the straights.

The demo will be broadcast live, exclusively on the Internet, on Audi Media TV , starting at 12.45pm on 19 October.
