Ford's entry-level Kuga is easily among the better deals in its segment, but until now it hasn't been an option for those not keen on changing their own gears.

To meet the growing demand for self-shifting convenience in this neck of the woods, Ford is now offering the 1.5T Ambiente with a six-speed automatic gearbox option.

As an added bonus, this model gets the more powerful version of Ford's 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine. Whereas the 1.5-litre manual models produce 110kW, the new auto version matches its higher-spec auto counterparts with outputs of 132kW and 240Nm.

Power is through the front wheels as all-wheel drive, which most buyers likely don't want or need, is only available in the upper half of the range.

You won't really miss anything in the way of creature comforts in the Ambiente, with a features list extending to cruise control, Sync multimedia system with voice control and Bluetooth, one-touch electric windows all round, keyless start, audio controls on the steering wheel and a 230v/150W power converter for charging devices.

Safety is sorted by seven airbags, including one for the driver's knees, as well as ESP stability control and Trailer Stability function.
