Johannesburg Motor Show - It's widely accepted that human beings tend to form an increased desire for things that they can't have, which means the Camaro ZL1 Convertible is sure to draw the crowds to Chevrolet's stand.

It's purely a tease though; the Camaro is not destined for sale over here as it's currently only built in left-hand drive form.

What we're missing out on, then, is good old-fashioned muscle car sheet metal housing a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that kicks out 432kW and 754Nm.

The insanely powerful Chevrolet ragtop will thunder from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds, according to Chevrolet.

As the performance flagship of the Camaro range, the ZL1 also receives suitably upgraded suspension, which includes third-generation Magnetic Ride Control, and various aerodynamic tweaks.

The proof is in the Nürburgring Nordschleife pudding, and the ZL1 can claim to have lapped the gruelling circuit in just 7m41s27.

However, unless you're prepared to fork out for an expensive right-hand drive conversion, the Camaro will remain a dream for now.

Back to reality, Chevrolet has at least added some extra muscle to two of its regular models. The firm's 103kW/200Nm 1.4-litre Ecotec turbopetrol engine is now fitted to the Cruze and the new Sonic RS .
