Matt black is an increasingly sought after colour for tuner cars but seldom do you find this hue on production models.

One such exception is the new Fiat 500 Matt Black special edition, which is about to go on sale in South Africa in limited numbers and for a price of R185 000.

While this Fiat's body and 16-inch alloy wheels are in matt black, its grille mouldings, door handles and exterior mirrors are finished in a dark metallic effect. The wheels also have a red coach line and red brake callipers.

Although the price seems on the steep side, there is an abundance of kit on the inside, including climate control, a six-speaker premium Hi-Fi Interscope sound system and rear parking sensors.

TOUCH-SCREEN NAVIGATION

From there the release starts sounding like an infomercial with news that the first 50 buyers will also receive fully integrated touch-screen infotainment system complete with Tom Tom navigation. The system works in sync with Fiat's Blue&Me Bluetooth system.

Like the range-topping 500 Lounge model that costs R11 500 less, the Matt Black is chugged along by a 1.4-litre 16V naturally aspirated petrol motor that's good for 74kW and 131Nm.

Safety kit includes seven airbags, ESP stability control, traction control, hill holder and ABS with EBD.

Also included in the price is a three-year/100 000km warranty and five-year/90 000km service plan.
