Seoul, South Korea - These are the first official renderings from Hyundai of what will become the flagship model of its newly announced Genesis nameplate on its global launch in December.

The G90 luxury sedan is all about on what Hyundai R&D boss Woong-Chul Yang calls 'New Luxury': cutting edge technology delivered in easy-to-use formats, wrapped in 'real' materials - i.e. wood, leather and polished metal, rather than polyester and plastic.

The drawings show how the rear-wheel drive G90's design language emphasises the car's presence, its big, upright grille seemingly challenging the air molecules to get out of its way, while sleek, intricate headlight clusters add a futuristic sparkle and a body-length character line makes the most of the long, low profile.

The G90, the first of six new Genesis models due to debut by 2020, will be launched in Korea - where it will be badged as the EQ900 - in December 2015. Hyundai SA says it is looking with interest at the G90, but that a final decision on whether to bring the Genesis brand to South Africa is still some way off.
