Jaguar has whet our appetites with this official sketch of a car that it will be showing off for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 13 September. It goes by the name of 'C-X16 production concept', meaning that it's a concept vehicle that previews a future production model.

According to reports, the sports car is shorter than the current XK and is strictly a two-seater, with power coming from a newly developed supercharged V6 engine, although not much other detail has been divulged at this point.

Both coupe and roadster versions are expected to see the light of day, with styling influenced by the C-X75 concept that Jaguar unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last year.

The C-X16 was designed by the same team that penned the JX, XF and XK, headed by design director Ian Callum, who enthused: "Great Jaguars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future.

"The finished C-X16 concept has the potential to do these things while retaining the ability to surprise, to excite and invigorate."

Jaguar's global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, further elaborated on the marque's prospects: "Jaguar has set in place bold, ambitious plans for the future. This production concept demonstrates the depth of design and engineering ability we have within Jaguar to make these plans come to life."
