We know white cars are difficult to keep clean, but white is still a cool colour - partly because it looks smart, especially when trimmed in gloss black rather than chrome, and partly because it reflects the sun's energy, lessening the load on your car's aircon and reducing fuel consumption.
All of which helps make Chrysler's new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Alpine limited edition rather special - as does the fact that only 95 of them will be coming to South Africa.
The Alpine Cherokee is finished in a special 'bright white' paint, with black vapour chrome on the five-spoke, 20" rims and gloss black enamel on the bonnet badge, door badges, grille surround and inserts, the rear light bar and step pad, and the tailgate badge.
BIG NUMBERS
Under that huge expanse of white bonnet you'll find a 'standard' naturally-aspirated, 6.4-litre SRT V8, churning out an intimidating 344kW and 624Nm, good enough to take this two-tonne beetle-crusher to 100km/h in five seconds flat and on to 255km/h.
An electronic limited slip differential and SRT-tuned adaptive damping suspension help keep things tidy in the corners, as does an electronic stability programme that offers five modes, including functions for slippery conditions and for racetrack driving.
LUXURY TRIM
The cabin is finished in suede-leather with carbon-fibre trim, and standard kit includes electrically-adjustable sports bucket seats, adaptive cruise control, satnav, parking sensors assist, seats and an 825-watt Harman Kardon sound system.
