Estate cars are a very rare entity on South African streets but those looking for an elegant way to enter the traditional wagon market can opt for the all-new C-Class Estate from October.

The estate is now available to order and Mercedes-Benz SA is giving you three basic options.

C-CLASS ESTATE PRICES:

C 180 - R447 600

C 200 - R468 300

C 250 BlueTec - R558 400

EFFICIENT ENGINES

The all-turbo engine range offers two four-cylinder petrol options in the form of the 115kW/250Nm C 180 and 135kW/300Nm C 200 and diesel-heads can opt for the ultra-frugal C 250 BlueTec, which develops 150kW and 500Nm.

As with the sedan, Estate buyers can choose between two versions of the conventional steel suspension (a sporty set up or a more comfy one) and those seeking the ultimate magic carpet ride can order theirs with Airmatic air suspension.

There's also a choice of four interior and exterior styling and equipment grades ('line concepts' in Mercedes-Speak) which are: Standard, Exclusive, Avantgarde and AMG Line.

MORE SPACE

Despite weighing less than its predecessor, the new Estate is a larger car and the increased dimensions allow for increased legroom, more interior width and headroom, as well as up to ten more litres of luggage space - which varies between 490 litres and 1510 litres depending on whether or not you fold the rear seats.
