Nissan UK's astonishing Juke R concept, with running gear borrowed from the GT-R supercar, is an testament to what can be done with a no-limit budget and a certain lack of mechanical sympathy, but as a blueprint for a red hot street car it has a couple of glaring shortcomings.

One is price; to build a Juke R replica, you'd have to start by buying - and destroying - an ultra-rare Nissan GT-R, which would in any case not endear you to Nissan or their hard-core fans the world over.

Then you'd have buy a Juke and rip that apart before you started building what would wind up being an insanely expensive two-seat hatchback with legal issues; it would be very difficult to get it through roadworthy anywhere in the world.

So American tuning specialists Fox Marketing has come up with a more workable plan: the Juke S.

This would use readily available aftermarket goodies and proven techniques to make a (barely) street-legal Juke almost as quick as the R at a fraction of the cost and without sacrificing a supercar for each example.

The guys at Fox intend to build one to celebrate their 12th anniversary as a custom-car builder, and then produce them to order.

They said: "When we first saw the Juke R that Nissan UK built, we were blown away. But, to build a vehicle like that you are talking about a seven-figure budget."

Their plan, instead, is to retain the standard 1.6-litre engine, install stronger internals and a huge turbo/intercooler upgrade, then lean on it until it squeaks; they reckon 300kW is an attainable target - which should certainly spank any Euro hot hatch out there.

To keep under control, Fox has also specified six-piston brake callipers on 355mm ventilated discs, 20" alloy rims, a very aggressive aero kit that will live in terror of suburban speed bumps, wild paint (relax, Cyril, the metallic orange you see here isn't compulsory) and some tasteful interior embellishments such as Yokata Ronin racing seats.

Fox Marketing has promised further details as the plan is transformed into metallic reality; as soon as we hear, so will you.
