Nissan’s Micra Nismo is all show

Nissan will soon be treating its Japanese customers to a Nismo version of the March (aka Micra) but it's going to be something of a sheep in wolf's clothing.

They're throwing around phrases like "motorsport-derived technology" and "aerodynamic technology that has been honed through the Nissan GT-R's involvement in the Super GT Series."

And while the kit will no doubt improve road holding, it is really more of a cosmetic exercise than anything else and the most that customers can look forward to in terms of technology is a slightly tuned 1.5-litre engine (in the Nismo S) that produces 86kW and 156Nm.

In fact, the standard Nismo Micra features the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine that's fitted to the base Micra.

Never mind, the little Nismo still promises a package that will make it look and feel like a hot hatch, only at a much more affordable price.

In addition to a 'specially tuned' suspension and 16-inch alloys, this Micra receives a custom exterior kit that's been aerodynamically honed.

The upgrades include a bolder front bumper that was designed to generate downforce, new grille, fender mouldings, signature red door mirrors, side sill protectors, roof spoiler and rear bumper.

The interior tinkering extends to Nismo bucket seats covered in suede-like cloth, a special instrument cluster, Alcantara-covered steering wheel with red centre mark and various other accents with red stitching.

According to Nissan South Africa, the Nismo products for our region have not yet been confirmed, but they do promise to make a proper announcement in due course.
