Nissan SUV concept: get your 'Kicks'

Nissan has taken the wraps off the new Kicks Concept at the Sao Paulo motor show in Brazil.

Assuming that there is a production version in the works (well, it does look fairly production-ready) it remains unclear where this would fit in relation to the Juke as it appears to belong to the same segment. On the one hand, it might be for Brazil and selected countries only; on the other it could serve as a cheaper and more sanely-styled alternative to the Juke.

Nissan has said that the Kicks Concept was "inspired by the streets of Brazil and designed for its people." That said, it was something of a global design collaboration that saw Nissan's Californian design department creating it with input from Nissan's Rio design studio and under the guidance of the global design centre in Japan.

The Rio studio's chief designer Robert Bauer said that the inspiration for the concept was found in the grey tones of the urban settings in São Paulo and the bright natural colours seen near the studio in Rio: "How to combine these two, the more grey urban tones with the bright sunset orange that we would see - this combination we thought was really uniquely Brazilian."

Taro Ueda of Nissan Design America added: "It's not only just for the Brazilian market, but we capture the idea of Brazil and then we apply it to our global design improvement, making a stronger design line-up for future Nissan designs."

Now would you rather get your 'Kicks' from this Rio-inspired vehicle or are you happier sticking to the Juke?
