Koenigsegg Agera R has BIG numbers

Swedish supercar loons Koenigsegg have released full technical spec for their Agera R street racer, which we featured when it was first shown to the world at the Geneva motor show.

Now we have all the important numbers - and they are very impressive indeed.

Let's start with the engine: it's a twin-turbo, DOHC V8 with four valves per cylinder and sequential, multipoint fuel injection, running a 9:1 compression ratio and a muscular 1.4 bar of boost. The company quotes an arm-stretching 820kW at 6900rpm (it'll rev on to 7250 before the limiter steps in!) and “more than 1000Nm from 2700 to 6170rpm”, peaking at 1200Nm at 4100 revs.

Koenigsegg say it'll do 0-100 in 2.9sec, 0-200 in 7.5, and top out somewhere north of 390km/h, at a cost of 14.7 litres/100km.

It drives through a specially developed, seven-speed, dual clutch transmission with a single input shaft and paddle-shift, and an electronic differential.

The whole car weighs only 1330kg dry, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 0.616kW/kg, not far short of superbike territory - for reference, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 superbike (see the road test published on IOL Motoring today) has 142kW on 205kg, giving it 0.693kW/kg.

But the Agera R's crew sit in a carbon-fibre monocoque with aluminium honeycomb and integrated fuel tanks for optimal weight distribution, running on double-wishbone suspension all round with fully machined aircraft-aluminium uprights and Z-style progressive, lightweight anti-roll bars front and rear.

The body is also carbon-fibre, with Kevlar for strength and honeycomb for stiffness - and, if you ask nicely, Koenigsegg will supply it lacquered instead of painted so you can see the perfectly symmetrical, hand-laid weave of the carbon fabric.

Braking is entrusted to ventilated ceramic discs, 397mm in front with six-piston callipers and 380mm at the rear with four-pot callipers.

The Agera R rolls on forged-aluminium vortex-generating, centre-locking rims shod with specially-made Michelin Supersport gumballs, 265/35 - 19 in front and 345/30 - 20 at the rear, which the maker says will provide enough grip to stop the car from 100kmn/h in 30.5m and pull 1.6g of lateral acceleration.

Standard kit includes dual airbags, detachable storable hardtop with glass roof, power windows, adaptive rear wing, adjustable pedals and steering column, Agera stitching, adjustable seats for rake and length, carbon ceramic brakes with Sport ABS, hydraulic lifting system, power steering, power brakes, satnav, MP3 player, USB connection, climate control, digital warning and info system, G sensor, alarm, tyre pressure monitoring, leather carpets, roof storage bag, car cover - and a sterling silver key.

You can ask for fitted luggage, special leathers and colours, a full visible carbon body, an inconel exhaust system, front winglets, rear view camera, heated seats, a “winter wheel package” and four-point racing harnesses.

But perhaps the most amazing specification of all is that Koenigsegg offers a three-year warranty on what is basically a street-legal (just!) racing car.

Nothing as crass as price is mentioned in the factory brochure, but don't expect any change from €1 million (about R10 million) ex factory - and you can just about double that for South Africa.
