Due to its long absence, Peugeot is not a name that you'll associate with the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a torturous event in Colorado that sees competitors racing their way through 156 corners.

However, the French company actually won the event in the last two years in which it competed, 1988 and 1989, and now it's making a comeback.

Peugeot Sport will be returning to the 19.9km event this year with a star driver in the form of world rally legend Sébastien Loeb.

The Frenchman, who has nine WRC titles to his name, will compete in a feisty little machine - Peugeot's 208 T16 Pikes Peak, which was specifically engineered and built by Peugeot Sport.

The company has been mum on the details of its new beast, saying all will be revealed soon, but needless to say that it will be radically different to the 208 hatchback that it resembles.

As we can see from the pictures of the newly unveiled car, the Pikes Peak has a large rear wing taken straight from the 908 that won the Le Mans 24 Hours race and an aerodynamically-optimised carbon fibre body.
