Earlier this year, Australians became lucky guinea pigs when Volvo gave them a Polestar version of the S60. Now Volvo has revealed the global version of this and the V60, both also now sporting the latest series facelift.

Volvo's motorsport partner, Polestar, has extensively reworked the six-cylinder T6 turbopetrol engine to produce 257kW at 5700rpm and 500Nm at 2800rpm.

This Polestar potency will see it rocket from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and on to 200km/h in 17.7s before hitting the electronically limited 250km/h wall.

Polestar also ensured there's a soundtrack to match the pace, by installing a 2.5-inch stainless steel exhaust system that makes the most of the engine's throaty bellow.

Its power surges through a six-speed automatic gearbox, with flappy paddles, and a Haldex all-wheel drive system. To further boost its cornering talent, Polestar increased the rigidity of the chassis to cater for new springs that are 80 percent stiffer, while also throwing in Öhlins shocks and 20-inch Polestar alloy wheels.

Stopping on a dime is ensured by a substantially modified braking system, featuring 371mm ventilated front discs and six-pot Brembo calipers.

Then there's the exterior design package that adds flash and enhances aerodynamic performance, with the front splitters optimising the airflow beneath the car and a new rear spoiler and diffuser increasing downforce.

According to our Volvo SA contact, the company is extremely keen on bringing the S60 Polestar to local shores but is currently crunching numbers as the exchange rate remains an obstacle.

How badly do you want one?
