London, England - A car rally involving celebrities and millionaires has been abandoned a day early because two British drivers have been arrested in Macedonia and accused of causing a crash that killed a local man and his wife.

Nicholas Morley and Matthew McConville were driving in the multi-country Gumball 3000 rally; Morley was driving a Porsche 911 Turbo that was in a collision that killed Vladimir Cepuloski, 67, and seriously injured his wife who died later in hospital.

Rally founder Maximillion Cooper said: "As a sign of respect we decided the 2007 Gumball 3000 rally will end in Bratislava this evening.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened in nine years of travelling with many drivers through more than 40 countries and it is with deep regret that I make this announcement."

The "rally" involved more than 180 expensive cars and on this run were celebrities such as actor Orlando Bloom. - AFP
