Even the top teams admit the 2014 Formula One season is likely to deliver a lot of surprises. The new 1.6-litre turbo V6 engines with energy recuperation systems that are said to be good for three seconds a lap are an unknown quantity, the new systems are way more complex than the old ones and nobody has been allowed to test them as yet.
That could be a recipe for disaster (and some pessimists in the cybergarage are saying it will be) but Ferrari and fuel partner Shell put a brave face on it as they explain in this video just how the new powertrain works and what will be required to make it competitive.
