Melbourne - Lewis Hamilton on Tuesday suggested to Red Bull to employ better staff and team-mate Nico Rosberg invited Sebastian Vettel to their debrief again as the dominant Mercedes duo reacted to fears from rivals of a boring Formula One season.
The reigning champion Hamilton won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix Sunday from Rosberg, with Vettel half a minute behind in third for Ferrari and his former Red Bull team calling for the ruling body FIA to step in to avoid another lopsided season.
“You got to have some better people,” Hamilton told the Seven Network. “People are always unhappy if they are not winning.”
There are fears of a similar Mercedes dominance as in 2014 - after Red Bull had won four straight drivers' (Vettel) and constructors' titles between 2010 and 2013. On Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo was a distant sixth and Daniil Kvyat stopped in the formation lap.
Hamilton insisted that “we weren't complaining” during Red Bull's reign “in which they dominated big time” and that “we have employed fantastic people and we did a fantastic job” at the Melbourne race.
The Briton praised the new car as the best he has ever had in the sport but also warned that Ferrari, now with Vettel, have taken a big step forward compared to last year.
Vettel suggested Sunday at the post-race news conference that Mercedes should open their garage to everyone at the next race in Malaysia to which Rosberg said “you can come if you want, we can invite you.”
Rosberg repeated it on Tuesday on Twitter, saying: “Dear Seb, this is the official invitation to join our debrief Friday 16:00 at Sepang. See you there, don't forget your notebook!”
